Travertine is a beautiful natural stone, but over time its naturally occurring voids can open up, weaken, and begin to crumble. When that happens, replacing the entire floor usually isn’t necessary.

How We Repair Damaged Travertine

1. Open Up the Damaged Area

The repair starts by getting down to solid stone.

Ken carefully drills and opens the damaged sections of the travertine. Instead of simply covering the surface, the loose and weakened material needs to be removed so the repair can bond to a solid foundation.

2. Remove the Loose & Crumbling Material

Next, everything that can no longer support the repair is removed.

The broken pieces, loose fill, dust, and deteriorated material are taken out of the damaged area. This leaves a clean cavity that can be properly rebuilt rather than hiding the problem underneath a surface patch.

3. Rebuild & Fill the Travertine

The damaged voids are filled and reconstructed.

Once the area is clean, the openings are filled with a repair material selected to blend as naturally as possible with the surrounding travertine. The goal is to rebuild the damaged section while maintaining the character and appearance of the original stone.

4. Hone, Polish & Blend the Finish

The final step is making the repair feel like part of the floor again.

After the repair has cured, the area is honed and polished to smooth the surface and blend the repaired sections into the surrounding travertine. The floor is then finished to bring back a clean, even appearance.
